The power adapter had apparently been used but the drive was in a sealed bag and so were the cables.

My recertified unit didn't have any printed manuals included but they were on the disk and can also be downloaded from the WDC website.

Overall Review: Backup software for Mac and Windows is included on the disk, but I bought this as a DVR extender so I won't be using or evaluating that software.Īctual capacity is 933GB (that's to be expected). Hopefully you'll remember this before you fill it up.

Pre-formatted in FAT32 so you'll have to reformat it to support files larger than 4GB. Would probably be too bulky and heavy (2.5Lbs) for many people to travel with. The white LEDs are sufficiently dimmed to not hurt your eyes, and are used as Capacity Gauge when connected to PC or Mac through USB or Firewire (included software must be installed for this feature the feature doesn't work on eSATA because this is technically impossible).Ĭons: No eSATA cable included.

Supports USB ("C" type connector on back), Firewire 400 (two 6-pin connectors) and eSATA. Pros: Heavy so it doesn't fall over easily.

I will post an update if I experience any issues in the future. Overall, very pleased with the purchase so far but a little worried considering the lemons some have reported. I am not too concerned with the lack of eSATA and the USB & Firewire works great.

Overall Review: I am using this primarily for storing HD media so the usage is lower as I use my other 750GB for daily use. But at the same time seems to dissipate it fairly decently as well. However this may not be the fault of the drive, as I have read others having issues with the eSATA ports on my particular mobo (P5K3 Deluxe Wi-Fi).Īlso, seems to generate much more heat than my other WD 750GB Book drive when in use. Ordered, and cannot seem to get eSATA to work no matter the configuration/drivers. =)Ĭons: No eSATA cable as others have stated. I also like the light - reminds me of KITT from Knight Rider only not red (it's bright white). The inclusion of a power button is a nice addition once I figured out how it works (need to press and hold until light goes completely off). Pros: Quiet, reliable and responsive - a bargain considering drive/size for ~$75 shipped included power, USB, and Firewire cables. Not terribly bad for USB, and you also have to consider it was done with an old ECS nFORCE3 board with a single-core Athlon 64 and 2gigs DDR400. 383 gigs in 4 hrs 11 min for a write rate of 26.04 MB/s, and then wrote it back to the internal in 3 hrs 37 min for a rate of 30.12 MB/s. Overall Review: After enabling write caching I tranferred the entire contents of a WD6400AAKS SATA II drive to this external by USB. But as it does have Firewire and eSATA and I use Ghost for backups anyway, I'm not gonna dock it a star (actually I did, but they won't let me give it 9 stars here). Documentation oughta remind us to go Device Manager and enable disk write caching, without which it's REALLY slow (9+hrs to format? Sheesh. Auto on-off or manual button, runs cool (like 8 to 10 deg F even after 383 gigs of continuous file transfer), 3x connection, and 1TB for $70 (a week ago on special)? AWESOME!!!Ĭons: Speed in USB is ho-hum (haven't tried eSATA yet, cable doesn't come with drive). Pros: 5 stars isn't for speed but for bang-for-the-buck. When you’re ready to use it, it wakes up automatically.Īdditional Information Date First Available How cool is that?Įnvironmentally friendly - Our environmentally-friendly drive is designed to save power by going into standby mode after 10 minutes of inactivity.
